South Pacific cruises

With total involvement in the ship there's time to master the rig, become confident aloft or learn something of ocean navigation.

Tahiti and her Islands are one of the most popular destinations in the South Pacific for visiting large ship cruises.

Most call in at Papeete for a day of shopping and sight seeing. The deep water bays of Moorea and Raiatea are the popular destinations and all make the compulsory call in at Bora Bora for a day at the beach.

List of Lines that serve the area
There are several large ship cruises (300 + passengers) based in French Polynesia including the Regent Seven Seas Paul-Gauguin and Princess Cruises. Both depart Papeete every week for a 7 to 10-day tour of the Society Islands. There are also several small ship cruises (50 passengers) based in Papeete and large catamarans capable of accommodating 20 people which make trips around the Society Islands.

Ports of Call to visit in the South Pacific
South Pacific cruises may take travelers to the stunning and mostly undisturbed beauty of French Polynesia, The Cook Islands, American Samoa, Fiji or many more remote locales.South Pacific cruises may visit Australia or New Zealand.

Some of the most popular South Pacific vacations are in French Polynesia. On your South Pacific vacation there, discover the underwater scenery of the reef surrounding Raiatea, sun bathe on the white-sand beaches of Bora Bora, or drive through pineapple fields in Moorea. Or, visit remote and unspoiled Fanning Island or Christmas Island, or world famous Fiji.

Tahiti
The superlatives that have built up in our shared consciousness about Tahiti and her 118 unique islands may seem over-blown...

Moorea
Lush and beautiful, dominated by spiky mountain peaks, pristine blue bays and inland pineapple groves, Moorea is a favorite port of call in French Polynesia.

Papeete
You'll dock in the heart of Papeete alongside a charming waterfront esplanade. Numerous attractions and restaurants are within easy walking distance from the ship.

Ambience and Activities
A cruise to the South Pacific is the perfect combination for both leisure and adventure. Languish on the beaches and swim and snorkel in the clean clear water. Or take a more active approach and dive the reefs and lagoons looking for sharks. And between August and October humpback whales are often seen near shore. Sailing, parasailing, and deep sea fishing are also at their best.

On land the most popular adventures are hiking and four-wheel safaris. The lush tropical foliage is filled with amazing flowers and herbs, and you will be delighted by the heavenly fragrance of jasmine, hibiscus and vanilla. Among the exotic natural features, coconut and pineapple plantations cover the lower slopes of the mountains, and provide interesting stopping points.

Shopping is quite good on some of the islands. You can find hand-painted designs on clothing that is ideal for the tropical climate, as well as precious black pearls, curios and perfumes. In addition, many of the local crafts are skillfully created and true works of art. The islanders are anxious to share their culture with you directly. Historically there is no written language, so stories and traditions were passed through the generations through dance. You can take part in traditional welcoming ceremonies upon your arrival, and enjoy other performances throughout your cruise. There are also craft and cooking demonstrations, where there is sure to be something good to eat!
